WHAT QUALIFICATION DO I GET?
With this course you gain the following qualification:
YMCA Awards Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
The Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing has been designed to ensure you are qualified with the most uptodate knowledge and skills to work in a gym enviroment. This is the first stage towards becoming a Personal Trainer.
WANT TO QUALIFY AS A GYM INSTRUCTOR?

During the course you will study the following units:
- Unit 1 Anatomy and physiology for exercise and fitness instructors
- Unit 2 Providing a positive customer experience in the exercise environment
- Unit 3 Lifestyle and health awareness management
- Unit 4 Gym -based programme planning and preparation
- Unit 5 Gym – based programme delivery and professional instruction
Successful achievement of all units must be achieved for the full qualification

Classroom Learning L2 Gym Course Stages
- Stage 1 -Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be provided with your learning resources.
- Stage 2 - The schedule for your training days will be emailed to you. This process can take up to 5 working days to process. You will also be provided with your tutor details who will contact you.
- Stage 3 –You can start studying once you receive your resources. Using the hard copy manuals will allow you to make notes as you work.
- Stage 4 –You will attend the scheduled training days where the tutor will guide you through all the skills you require to complete your assessments
- Stage 5 –When you are ready we will provide you with a list of assessment dates for the theory papers, you choose the date and email us your option. There is also the option of taking the theory paper remotely which means you can take the paper at a time that suits you. You will need to contact us for taking the paper remotely to check you can meet the requirements set by the awarding body.
- Stage 6 –Once you have passed all your written work you will be provided with a list of assessment dates to choose from. You book onto your chosen date. Details will be emailed to you. You will attend with your client and take your practical assessment.
- Stage 7 –Once all units have passed and your work has been through our quality assurance process your certificate will be requested from the awarding body. YMCA Awards. As soon as we receive your certificate we will post it to you.
- Stage 8 –Once you are qualified you can apply for job as a Gym instructor and/or enrol onto our Level 3 PT blended learning course. We look forward to supporting you through your learning.
Distance Learning L2 Gym Course Stages
- Stage 1 –Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be provided with your learning resources.
- Stage 2 – You will also be provided with your tutor details who will contact you.
- Stage 3 –You can start studying once you receive your resources.
- Stage 4 –You will be emailed a schedule of eclasses you can attend..
- Stage 5 –When you are ready we will provide you with a list of assessment dates for the theory papers, you then choose the dates you wish to attend from the list. We offer weekday and weekend choices. There is also the option of taking the theory paper remotely which means you can take the paper at a time that suits you..
- Stage 6 – If you would like to book a face to face training day in a gym there will be an additional charge for this. Contact us for details of dates and additional cost.
- Stage 7–When all your written work has been completed and passed you can take your practical assessment. We will provide you with a list of practical assessment dates to choose from. You will need a participant to bring with you as your client. You can record all assessments and submit by recording. You will need to contact us for all details for this process. We also offer the option of Zoom assessments. These need to be booked in advance.
- Stage 8 –Once all units have passed and your work has been through our quality assurance process your certificate will be requested from the awarding body, YMCA Awards. Once we receive your certificate we will post to you.
- Stage 9 –Once you are qualified you can apply for job as a Gym instructor and / or enrol onto our Level 3 PT blended learning course.

Are there any Prerequisites?
- You must be aged 16 plus. You should have some experience of gym-based exercises through personal practice and should have a certain amount of physical fitness
How do I book?
- Stage 1 –You can either complete the contact form by clicking here or you can scroll down the page and click on the book course which will open up a new page. Once we have received your contact information we will email the enrolment documents to complete.
- You can also telephone and we will start the process by emailing you the documents.
- Stage 2 –Once we have received all documents and payment you will receive the resources for the course. This will take approximately a week to process. If you would like to use our interest free payment plan please ask as details will then be emailed to you.
- Stage 3 –You can start learning once you have received all resources. You will be guided how to start and what is required. You will be provided with your tutor contact details.
- Stage 4 –You will be emailed the course schedule which will give you the venue address and requirements.

How will I be assessed?
- To achieve the qualification you must complete and pass the following:
- Learner Assessment Record
- Assessment Workbook
- Multiple Choice Theory paper
- Practical examination
- Portfolio of evidence
- There is no charge for reassessments
Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
You will cover:
- Anatomy and physiology including:
- The heart and circulatory system
- The respiratory system
- The digestive system
- Structure and function of the skeleton
- The heart and circulatory system
- Postural and core stability
- The nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise
- Principles of working in the gym environment, including customer service and how to maintain health, safety and welfare
- How to conduct consultations and promote the health benefits of physical activity
- How to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
- The skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme with apparently healthy adults – both individuals and groups. This may include young people in the 13-18 age range, provided they are part of a larger adult group and older adults (50 plus).
Awarding body
The Awarding body for our Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing qualification is YMCA Awards. Once you have achieved all elements of the qualification and the quality assurance process has been completed your nationally recognised certificate will be processed.

This course is for adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a Gym Instructor. This course will provide you the most up-to-date qualification at the end of your journey.
