Choosing a Fitness Training Provider

Gosh what a mine field! So many out there claiming to be the best and then the prices! OMG don’t they vary.

Here are some steps that may help…

When choosing your course, check that the course is accredited by an awarding body.

Check that the course is recognised by Registered Exercise Professionals (REPs) and that the course will give you recognised entry plus Continual Development Points (CDP).

There are many courses out there that are not and you will pay a lot of money and spend many hours of study time only to find that once you are qualified that the course is not accredited and you have not obtained or only obtained a minimum, which could be 2 Continual Development Points.

Costs! Well so many variations! Don’t always be taken in by the lowest and those offering to beat others with reduced prices!  Saving money does not mean you are always getting the best deal! For example when a training provider is correctly accredited and offering certificated level 2 qualifications for less than £300.00 I would start to worry as your certificate costs the training provider between £60 – £110 (depending on the awarding body), then manuals which the training provider purchase vary from £50-£100 (again depending on awarding body). So if you are paying £300 for example a level 2 Gym course and the awarding body is charging the training provider £200 per learner that leaves £100.00 for your learning! Hmmm … I would be mindful as that does not cover much learning unless you are having to study in large groups where you are a number and not a person. So be careful out there. There of course is the flip side where learners are charged silly amounts for Level 2 courses and have been left to their own devices… With SMART Qualifications we give sensible prices for each qualification and may occasionally place some offers at certain times of the year. These offers still reflect the quality we provide.

The most important thing is to see who your tutor is, what qualifications they have, do they teach regularly, ask the name of the tutor before you book and most transparent reputable companies will give you the tutors name and a background of them. Plus of course as already stated above, is the course accredited!

SMART Qualifications pride themselves in offering courses at sensible prices plus above all we train you in small groups ‘Quality not Quantity’ which allows you to learn comfortably in a non pressured enviroment. We recognise each learner as an individual and with that will help you achieve your goals.

When booking your course make sure you know who your tutor is and who is your assessor. Always check the following: Have you been given the name of your internal verifier? Do you have contact details for all persons involved in your course? If not then always question this as it is paramount to every course that each learner has these available.

There are many providers that will book you onto a course and then once that is booked search for a tutor, assessor and internal verifier, whom they have never met, worked with or know anything about. To me it is not beneficial for any learner as the tutor, assessor and IV will know nothing about how the company works which in the end is detrimental to you the learner.

Venues are important too! Does your provider have their own venue, is there carparking, showers, etc. If using a satalite venue do you know where it is, what type of venue is it? SMART Qualifications have our own venue which is friendly and provides learners with a comfortable enviroment. We also use satalite quality venues which have classrooms so your learning is comfortable as having worked the country in many venues I know how important this is.

So when you book do not be afraid to ask questions!

Good luck with your course search. Don’t forget we are happy to help you, just ask.

SMART Qualifications is made up of a strong team of professionals who look forward to helping you advance your career.
